Some climate models are suggesting that there will be no ice in the Arctic summer by the year 2100, but present research shows it could take only 20 years for sea ice to disappear in the Arctic . Scientists are saying that satellite imaging is showing 20 percent decrease in ice coverage. There is no question to whether the habitat for animals like the polar bear is being depleted. If we don’t do anything about rising heat levels the Arctic ice sheet could be ice free in as soon as 20 years.
Humans are using technology to help deal with global warming and climate change. Some of the ways technology is being used to avert global warming is, the idea of Ocean Fertilization. It is based on the ability of ocean plankton to absorb carbon dioxide and let out oxygen into the atmosphere. If you feed plankton with nutrients and minerals they’ll grow meaning they can take up more carbon dioxide causing more oxygen to be fed into the atmosphere. Another solution to deal with climate change is one much more high tech, it is called geo engineering, it is a variety of high tech plans drawn up by desperate scientists in the battle to fight global warming. One of such plans includes firing giant mirrors into space and covering the earth in a cloud of sulfur. Many think this might be too outrageous and expensive but it might be the only solution to future problems with climate change. Some simple low-tech solutions to minimize heat impact on our earth are White Roofs; they reflect sun light back to offset 44 billion tones of carbon dioxide. Another solution is just to eat less meat.
We can make changes in order to deal with problems associated with climate change to lower our CO2 footprint by walking or biking to work or school and using hybrid cars. Cities like Vancouver and communities like Sutherland can help stop global warming by recycling and using less heat or electricity. I feel our government’s role in supporting efforts to minimizing climate change should be the highest of all, because the government over sees everything and if it sees global warming as a threat the government should address it as one. The government should help stop climate change because it is the biggest leader and the biggest leader should help make changes.
