Investigation Assignment

The statement saying that the Arctic Ocean will be ice free by summer 2050 is true. "In 30-40 years, the Arctic may have no ice in the summertime, including the North Pole.” This was quoted from data of an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report. In the research I have done I have found that all the websites basically have the same idea: By summer of 2050, or possibly earlier, the Arctic Ocean will be ice free. The ice is melting because more infrared rays are being trapped in the world’s atmosphere, causing the temperature to rise, and there for causing the ice to melt.

There are a few technologies being used to avert global warming. There are a ones for conservation, ones for renewable resources, and probably more. There are wind turbines, and solar panels that I am sure that are technologies that are being use to conserve, and as renewable resources. The way they conserve is by creating energy from renewable resources, and not from other man made things. They are good energy options because you don’t have to burn anything, or make any emissions. There are possible technologic solutions to global warming. One of the ones I read about was that there would be a ship that would spray seawater into the air to create man made clouds. These clouds would reflect solar radiation. Some low tech solutions are white roofs, planting more trees, and eating less meat (to create less methane).

There are many ways of lowering your carbon footprint. They are as simple as turning off lights, taking shorter showers, and taking different modes of transport other than your car. Some alternative modes of transport are pubic transit, biking, and walking. Society affects the lifestyle choices we are willing to make by making environmentally conscious options available to buy. Communities like Sutherland, and cities like Vancouver, I think that creating an incentive to lower your carbon footprint would be a good strategy to address global warming. I also think it would be a good strategy for the government as well.
