The Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050. This statement is true since the Arctic Ocean is warming up, which could impact the global temperatures to also rise bit by bit. In addition to that, 90,000 square meters of sea ice turned into liquid during 2007. Even that wasn’t expected to happen for another 15 or 20 years. The ice becomes smaller and smaller each time the temperature rises up. This global crisis is caused by a warming planet, not only having an effect on the world but as well as the homes of animals living in the arctic.

One of the ways technology is used to avert global warming is using solar panels for renewable energy and a cleaner environment. Another way is buying an electric car instead of a big, gas guzzling vehicle. An electric car burns no gasoline or any fossil fuels which does benefit to clean energy. Using energy, efficient appliances also helps. An example of a high-tech solution suggested to deal with the effects of climate change is sending huge mirrors into orbit to filter damaging infra-red radiation. Simple low-tech things we can do to lessen our heat impact on the planet is using less hot water, using a clothesline instead of a dryer, or carpooling.

Changes society can make in dealing with climate changes is trying to reduce the impact that burning fossil fuels has on the environment. Saving energy and using gas and oil wisely is also important. Lifestyle changes we can make to lower our CO2footprint is to reuse items, for example using a reusable shopping bag instead of getting plastic ones, walking, biking or using an efficient car, or insulating your home. Strategies cities like Vancouver or communities like Sutherland can take to address global warming by changing fuel use in transportation and energy in homes. Our government’s role in supporting efforts to minimize climate change should be speaking out about it and presenting ways communities can do to lessen our carbon footprint.
